This is the premiere series for Shellies. My passion for making things with my hands and helping out other came together in this design. I've done a lot of disaster relief work all around the world, which inspired me to do more with my hands. I started with carpentry, which slowly led me to this. I can't really do much to physically do something due to my asthma, I couldn't risk getting sick. I wanted to do something, so I took what I was already working on and used it to help in a different way.

The COVID-19 Edition
While working on this endeavor, news about Covid-19 quickly changed our lives, and with it, the direction of Shellies. I had a desire to do something to help, and decided to use Shellies as a way to raise money for people being affected by this. It  meant a redesign of everything I had done up to this point, but I felt that it was something I had to do.

COVID-19 Design

The overarching design of this Shellie is from the most unexpectedly necessary item of a pandemic... toilet paper, who knew? Using that as the theme, I mimicked the way the logos/graphics are printed onto the toilet paper sheets and created icons of other essential and important items during this difficult time. The color scheme is simple, yet there are 2 colors, a primer, a matte, and gloss clear coat. Each one is unique because I sanded and painted each one by hand, which give each one different imperfections and personality.

This project took a lot longer than I had planned, having to stay in my apartment made it tricky trying not to make too much noise or dust, and the supplies I ordered took so long to arrive. In spite of all the challenges, I’m very happy with the way it turned out and hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do.
